Short of heading to Burma to fulfil the dream of finding monster size Burmese Trout, we find ourselves in the highlands of Northern Thailand in search for these unique fish.
The Burmese Trout is the South East Asian equivalent to the Salmonoids which inhabit temperate waters. They live in pristine highland streams which flow clean and fast. They lay in ambush behind rocks and in eddies created by diversions in the swift flow. Fishing these areas mean awesome scenery and a magical experience...
We start our journey upstream on foot and with heavy anticipation. The stream narrows with the altitude... |
This is a huge specimen for the species and instantly makes the trip for us... |
Hard not to study the intricacies which make these fish so special. Note the girth of the head and the super wide mouth which betray the slender body shape. An awesome fish in an awesome place... |
After that gigantic first fish the rest are smaller but are no less beautiful. As the stream narrows the fish are naturally littler... |
The DUO Spearhead Ryuki 50S continues on its stellar romp... |
They display the same amazing markings as their true Trout cousins. Coupled with their delicate fins they look like a proper ornamental fish... |
The brassy gold sheen is beautifully displayed on this fish which went for the DUO Ryuki 50S hard... |
We swap lures and continue our upstream trek. And are not entirely surprised when the next hit turns up fanatic fighting Blue Mahseer... |
This beautiful Mahseer, indigenous to Thailand, liked the smaller DUO Ryuki 45S... |
But its the Ryuki 50S that finds another good sized Burmese Trout... |
The DUO Spearhead Ryuki 45S does the job once again... |
And the larger Ryuki 50S accounts for another nice Burmese Trout... |
On this day we found the Finetail Travel Trout rod by Major Craft to be the perfect tool for this type of work. We end the day with another Blue Mahseer on the DUO Ryuki 45S... |
