Some old friends of Tackle Source over in East Malaysia have been so enthralled by the whole slow pitch jig revolution that they have decided to build a boat dedicated to the hunting of deep dwellers which lurk off the shelf. Of course we were the first on board and witness to the christening of the vessel...
The Poseidon 1 gets wet for the first time... |
And first fish on board is a brilliant Ruby Snapper on the FEED FALL jig... |
Rubies travel in schools and we were lucky to pluck a second one with another FEED FALL jig... |
You know you are dropping deep when a Gemfish pays a visit. This one snaffled the SFC Cranky and got pinned... |
While in shallower depths the Coronation trout is ever present. This one took a lighter FEED FALL prototype jig... |
A long fight ends up with a nice Thresher Shark in the boat. It took a swipe at the flutter-fantastic FEED FALL jig and regretted in an instant... |
After a few quick shots for posterity this magnificent creature was released healthily to continue terrorizing the oceans... |
This trip also allowed us to break out the brand new FEED FLINT jig, designed precisely for these type of deep drops. It didn't take too long to prove its worth... |
Deep dwelling Groupers like this are considered trophies of sorts in these parts... |
Meanwhile there are smaller ones to keep everyone else busy. The FEED FALL hits again... |
At midday the bite was a tough one but the nimble presentation of the fluttering FEED FALL has at least one fish fooled. A tough customer in the form of a large 6kg Mack Tuna... |
Then we decide to scour the depths with the FEED FLINT and score a nice Ruby Snapper... |
Turns out to be a pretty smart move as another Grouper comes aboard courtesy of the FEED FLINT jig... |
Going deep we find some truly unique species... |
Next drop finds a truly special customer. Its a Pearl Perch, a rarity in these parts. But the FEED FLINT found a nice one! |
And the party begins. Another Pearl Perch his the deck courtesy of the FEED FLINT jig... |
We have definitely found a thriving population as fish no.3 falls for the FEED FLINT... |
And it is truly the motherload as another FEED FLINT jig has this other fish hooked up... |
Amongst the melee are some more brutal predators like this Amberjack which also fell for the fantastic FEED FLINT... |
More drops with the FLINT jig and the results prove pretty instantaneous... |
The hook ups come fast and furious. We can barely catch up as a nice Ruby Snapper hits the deck. its the FEED FLINT again... |
The Pearl Perch are definitely the prized catch and we were lucky to connect to some truly decent sized ones. Like all those before, this one was a FEED FLINT victim as well... |
Colours didn't seem to matter so long as the action of the jig was fantastic. And of course the FEED FLINT had that covered... |
It was turning into a procession, for fish and FLINT jig alike... |
Everyone on board got in on the action with the FEED FLINT jigs. Pearl Perches were the result... |
One could almost be counted unlucky to hook up a Ruby Snapper in the chaos. But they loved FEED FLINT jigs all the same... |
They were obviously here in numbers, as exemplified by this double header of Pearl Perch... |
They are a magnificent looking fish, and are rumoured to have the taste to match. All we knew was they had a taste for FLINT jigs... |
As the Pearly bite waned the Rubies took over. This one liked the SFC Cranky presented to it... |
And of course the FLINT jig had the majority share of the fun... |
What a day of slow pitch jigging, capped off by this last Ruby on the FEED FLINT on its maiden voyage... |
But alas we had to leave the fish biting to beat the sunlight. This was just a preview of things to come though... |
