FAT BROWNIES!

We love going after these Groupers. they go hard and play dirty. Against the right gear they represent the best way to spend a lazy morning...

There is an element of finesse to getting them, so the right lure is essential...

The DUO Spearhead Ryuki usually does the trick...

And so does the DUO Realis Vibe...

The Major Craft Corzza medium light spin rod represents a great value for money in terms of weight, performance, sensitivity and all other attributes that make a good lure rod...

A fat Grouper finds the net...

Its the DUO Realis Spin Bait which does the trick on a slow day...

One has a to cast literally into the snags to incite a strike. Most fish are lost but this one cooperated...

The sinking IMA Ikuri Crank is a pond star...

Meanwhile going slow with the spybait was the trick...

The DUO Realis Spin Bait is the bomb...

When things really go quiet a nicely rigged soft plastic is seldom ignored...

The Jackall Dagger Minnow is a firm favourite...

The bigger ones really give a good account, and pulling them from the snags isn't for the faint hearted...

The DUO Spearhead Ryuki fools this one...

The day draws to a close with a last dirty fighter...

It fell for a DUO Tide Vib Score...

FLATS ATTACK!

It's the fishing we love the most. Wading the gin clear beaches, scanning for signs of a low visibility predator hunting out its prey in the shallow abode.

The trick is to see before being seen, so stealth is key. Armed with an ultralight rod (usually from Major Craft) and a little reel filled with 4lb line, covering distance and looking for that trophy is a non-issue. When the hook up comes, the runs are long and hard given the tackle used. Lure casting doesn't get any better...

Bluefin Trevally are a constant flats visitor, and they are aggressive little buggers that go hard on light gear...

Small poppers like this FEED Lures BELL5 will get their attention...

One of the trophies of the flats. The Bonefish is a good reason to get wet. The runs are fast and long...

We've learnt that the DUO Tetraworks Ikakko is a consistent producer of Bones, and rightly so...

The Major Craft KG Lights Aji special has been a trusty rod on flats missions past and it never ceases to amaze. On this decent Bluefin Trevally it lived up to the hype once again. Initial runs with Bluefin are usually out of control as they bolt into the deep. On ultralight gear the onus is on stopping them from getting to the reef...

The FEED Lures BELL5 strikes again, accounting for a nice fish.

A second Bonefish for the morning. This one had the DUO Ikakko sucked in deep...

Bluefin will give one a whole day of joy with their power and speed. This one reacted to a DUO Spearhead Ryuki Floating model twitched in the shallows...

The Major Craft KG Lights Aji special on a rampaging Bonefish in skinny water...

A fat Bonefish after losing another. It lives up to its billing as the 'Ghost of the flats'...

This one had the DUO Ikakko pinned neatly as it picked it up off the bottom...

When one finds structure in the form of a rocky outcrop, the Paddletail Snapper usually isn't far. They fight super hard for their size and are primed to find their way back into the cover...

Like everything else on the flats, they love DUO Ikakkos...

This particular rock held two Paddletail Snappers...

And the Ikakko did its thing again...

The Emperor is another flats visitor and they come in a myriad of species. This Black Blotched version is one of the most common. The DUO Ikakko usually finds them pretty quickly...

BARRAS IN THE DARK!

Doesn't get better than this. Chasing hard fighting saltwater species with small lures and ultralight gear is the most fun you can have short of jumping out of an airplane, especially when the fish oblige...

A very pleasant surprise when the first take turns out to be a Mangrove Jack after a hard fight on the Major Craft MS-X UL Spin rod...

The DUO Spearhead Ryuki is the culprit...

Next up is the fish we've come for, the acrobatic Barramundi...

The DUO Spearhead Ryuki claims another...

On Bait Finesse BC gear like the Major Craft MS-X BF these fights are great...

IMA Sasuke Shad 75 nails one...

After a lull we find the lure which appeals the most to these fish...

The DUO Realis Shad is the magic weapon...

Yet another Barra is landed...

Courtesy of the DUO Realis Shad...

Small but feisty, we don't complain...

DUO Realis Shad pins another...

Then its a double hook-up!

IMA Sasuke Shad and DUO Realis Shad in tandem...

The procession just doesn't seem to end. Barras love this lure...

The DUO Realis Shad shines...

A small one to end the night on a high...

The DUO Realis Shad is battered and ready to retire...
