HIGH SEAS + DEEP DROPS! Part One

It's back to the Maldives for more varied action with a myriad of methods and species to chase. No trip is boring when the diversity of the fishing is so spectacular. This trip would prove a little tough as the fish were pretty shut down so it was maximum effort for minimal reward. Nevertheless we got some along the way...

Every box is filled to the brim with toys from the candy store...

All hands on deck as the first day of fishing commences...

A hefty GT to get things going. On the FCL Labo EXT 81MH "red special" popping rod it gave a good account of itself...

This fish launched itself straight out of the water in its attempt to smash the FEED Lures PIN popper...

Things were slow the rest of the day but here's a Red Bass to show for our efforts. With the ever-successful FCL Labo SPP Tuna lure it was hard not to hit a fish...

On the jigging front the Xesta Flap jig is nailed by a greedy Wrasse...

We jigged hard but it was for nought...

The sinking stickbait nails a second Red Bass...

This time its the FEED Lures SLASH stickbait at work...

At anchor the first jig dropped gets a response from a little Mack Tuna which took a liking to a Xesta After Burner...

Some action into the night with a Paddletail Snapper...

It took a Jackall Laser jig...

And so did this little Bigeye Trevally...

A hungry Large Eye Scad found this Xesta Nitro jig...

The Xesta Nitro jig continues and scores this Bigeye Trevally...

Another Paddletail Snapper comes aboard courtesy of a Xesta After Burner jig...

Meanwhile another Bigeye Trev gets fooled by the Xesta Nitro jig...

The next day we are greeted by another sizable GT...

The SLASH by FEED Lures gets this fish pinned...

Another GT gets boated as the action heats up...

This fish went for a FEED PIN popper...

GT's aren't the only reef predator around these parts. Here's a nice Bluefin Trevally...

The FCL Labo SPP Tuna finds another customer...

The jigging is slightly better today as a nice Coronation Trout comes aboard...

Credit goes to the Bassday Bottom Contact jig...

A little Rock Cod falls for an IMA Ro jig...

A smaller Coronation Trout goes for a big slow jigged Xesta Flap jig...

And another Rock Cod gets boated courtesy of the IMA Ro jig...

These fish aren't shy and another Rock Cod gets its photo taken with the Bassday Bottom Contact hanging from its gob...

A long Shout! Lance jig is taken by a greedy little Mack Tuna...

When the light gear comes out the first take is a Triggerfish on an IMA Gun Peki jig...

A nice Bluefin Trevally to end the days proceedings...

Its a wild country down there, as this Barracuda gets a taste of its own medicine...

More Cuda hit the deck, this one got pinned by an IMA Gun Peki jig...

Bigeye Trevally get in on the act as well. This one obliges by taking a Xesta After Burner jig...

Its amazing small fish will consider attacking bait almost as large as itself...

This Mack Tuna certainly wasn't shy about taking a swipe at a FEED Lures SLASH...

Feisty fighters are these Bluefin Trevally...

It took a FEED Lures SLASH stickbait as well...

Using a lighter Major Craft Crostage Tuna casting rod and a Shout! Lighten metal jig, this Mack Tuna fell prey...

The GTs are back. The Abalone finish PIN popper by FEED Lures finds one...

GT number two of the day hits the deck. It proves a prototype FEED popper works okay...

The GTs seem to favour the popper on this day as another one gets hooked...

Its the FEED Lures PIN popper again...

At rest the little IMA Gun Peki jig finds a beautiful Triggerfish...

And later a little Sea Bream finds its way on board...

It took a Bassday Nin Cas mini Madai jig...

The next morning finds the FEED PIN popper nailing another GT...

This PIN popper snags a baby Triggerfish...

With the new FCL Labo EXT 85 Stickbait rod and the FEED Lures SPEAR pencil long casts are a breeze. This GT found the bright splasher to its liking...

We end the day with some jigging. Groupers are the most common catch and this is a nice one on the Shout! Shab Shab jig...

The new Shout! Lance slow jig dropped deep finds this Sea Bream which was duly hauled up with the strong Evergreen Poseidon jig stick...

There are a few species of Deep Sea Bream take are willing jig takers...
