CLOSE TO COAST

Spent a day trying out a new addition to our arsenal of offshore products - the Nin Raba Madai jigs by Bassday. The plan was simple, work the dropoffs close to shore for bottom dwelling species. But of course no trip would be complete without some other forms like casting thrown in...

First blood with the Nin Raba...

An Estuary Cod, and a good one too! 3kgs and tasty!

2nd Estuary Cod of about 1.5kgs got taken by a bigger fish on the way up...

Fingermark Bream like rubber too...

Day-Glo Orange seemed to be the flavour of the day...

A 5 pounder which gave a good account...

Smaller but still good for the table...

We were racking up the numbers with the Nin Raba...

Smaller one but lots of fun...

Another smallie...

Bycatch...

We then went to chase reefies with our Jackall Bros Mame jigs...

These small Tuskfish were abundant in the shallow reefs...

Next up, shallow reef bashing with plastics!

3kg Estuary Cod, exciting stuff on light gear...

Keitech Swing Impact was the weapon of choice...

One more for the road...

Another new toy - CB One Quick Dart F-1 30g...

Hit a school of Longfin Trevallies...

Only one jig worked for these finicky fish...

Small Queenfish on FCL Ebipop...

Bigger Queenie on IMA Gun jig...

Another Trev on the CB One jig to end the day...

A LIL' SLICE OF AMAZONIA

There was a new exciting lure in the works and when we were sent a prototype to assess we wasted no time in heading down to a local watering hole to cure some itch. The reason for the excitement was the species we were after - the finicky South American Pacu.

These Amazonian natives have been introduced and bred locally for some time and create a challenge for anglers who, with artificials try to fool this usually passive omnivorous eater that is more accustomed to munching on berries and plant matter.

In the stocked ponds where these fish are found, catch and release is oft practised, turning these fish into the toughest fish to fool. Only the best lures coupled with the best presentation will yield results, so we were keen to put the new lure to the test. The much anticipated Tiny Khamsin by Zipbaits was here at last...

Started things off with a local denizen, the Common Snakehead. Caught on an IMA Sukari, a consistently deadly lure for finicky fish...

Another lure from Zipbaits, the Raphael accounted for a few Pacu...

Majorcraft Troutino - perfect for light presentations...

Zipbait Raphael in a colour for fooling smart fish...

New Bassday Sugar Lipless 50S scored too...

Jackall Bros Tiny Fry got a smaller fish...

Big Pacu on Zipbaits Raphael...

Raphael - deadly...

Another big fish on Raphael...

Yet another big Pacu...

Another top producer by Zipbaits - the ZBL 50S...

More big fish, this time with the new kid on the block...

The prototype Tiny Khamsin getting the job done...

Raphael with more Pacu...

Tiny Khamsin strikes again...

Evergreen Temujin 'Spider' - great for working ultralight lures...

Tiny Khamsin again...

And again, proving its worth indeed...
