FEED LURES - WORKSHOP EXPERIENCE!

New brand FEED Lures boasts its handmade tradition, which in today's modernisation is a rarity bar highly exclusive artisanal products. The brand though, has bridged the gap between quality and finish versus price. By working with craftsmen within the south east Asian region to fine tune production from modernising techniques, attaining quality standards and achieving consistency across numbers. Much effort had been put into research and development for the products before being put into production and the results speak for themselves. We had the opportunity to take a glimpse into the making of these exciting lures and jumped at it. Here is how the creation process is achieved...

At first only the right wood is selected. Density affects weight and balance and a consistency has to be found for the particular product so that every lure comes out the same...
The process then kicks off by a long drying process to ensure zero moisture before being worked on. Again this is to ensure consistency of the end product...
When ready they are then cut into relevant sizes for the lures to be made...
This is a typical template for sizing up the raw wood for processing...
Once transferred, the stencil outline is guide for the wood to take a raw shape as the excess is discarded...
Despite being a rough flat sided block, this piece is unmistakably a stickbait in the making...
The actual shape of the lure is then formed with the help of a wood lathe. This process is where the skill of the craftsman is most essential as every one is individually hand cut. No computer-aided cutting here...
Fresh off the lathe the pieces have to be identical. Off ones are discarded at this stage to ensure uniformity...
It is a stringent sorting process and only the best ones make it through...
The good ones are then finished with the help of a sander and other hand wielded tools. Again another labour intensive process...

Next a filler coat is used to smoothen out any imperfections that may affect the end product...
Then a primer process begins as the finishing sequence begins...
Paints are hand mixed and prepped...
The painting is a multi coat process depending on colours applied and details to be added...
Stencils are produced for paint details...
and as well as for hologram sticker cutting and application too...
The final details like eyes and model designation are added before a final application of clear protective layering. This is a long process as FEED Lures are coated with multiple layers for added hardiness and protection against elements. It is a slow wait between repeated coating and drying before they are sent off to have the wire and balance weights inserted. Only then are they ready to be packed and shipped off to a dealer some where in the world...
