We continue with our amazing journey through the pristine waters of the Maldives. The topwater fishing had been trying but the jigging always saves the day...
We have a new FEED micro jig rod that is close to being released and this prototype is highly impressive against bruisers like this Dogtooth Snapper... |
It fell for the bullet-profiled Drag Metal Cast, a fresh product from the DUO stable... |
Triggerfish were always present along the reefs... |
Here is a nicer looking Starry Trigger that fell for a Major Craft Jigpara jig... |
The jig which also fooled this Rock Cod... |
In the shallows the Coronation Trout rule the reefs. And they like DUO Drag Metals too... |
The DUO Drag Metal worked with the prototype FEED rod with a little Emperor... |
Which proved to be pretty common along these reefs too. This one fell for an IMA Gun jig... |
The fish were coming in thick as we drifted along a nice dropoff with our micro jigs. Here's a little Sea Bream and a Jobfish on a DUO Drag Metal and IMA Gun respectively... |
And how about a beautiful Green Jobfish which went hard on the ultralight gear, it took a Shout! Shiver jig... |
IMA Gun finds a small Trev... |
Duo Drag Metal with a little Bream... |
And a trophy Trout which fell for the Shout! Shiver jig... |
Between the demersals we got some hard runners like this Rainbow Runner as well. It took the Drag Metal jig and went ballistic... |
The DUO Drag Metal finds a beautiful Emperor next drop... |
We then go deep but it doesn't mean bigger fish. This Sea Falcon Super Drain jig nails a Snapper barely larger than itself... |
So its back to the micro DUO Drag Metal and this nice Trev on the ultralight outfit... |
Dropping an IMA Gun a little deeper finds this Tomato Cod... |
And the Goldflag Jobfish are always around... |
A good drop with the Kanji Free Flip jig finds two Red Bass fighting over the jig, and both get nailed... |
Long FCL Labo NM jig is never too big for this little Onion Trevally... |
Going really slow with the Jackall Anchovy Missile finds this Rock Cod lurking... |
While working the faster Shout! Flash jig gets the attention of this Almaco Jack... |
Back to the shallows with the DUO Drag Metal jig gets a beautiful Coronation Trout... |
The little Onion Trevallies are omnipresent... |
DUO Drag Metal does the job... |
Major Craft Slow Draw rod working the FEED FALL jig turns up another Rock Cod... |
More reef dwellers courtesy of the DUO Drag Metal and FEED Prototype rod combo... |
Onion Trev on the Drag Metal... |
Bridled Triggerfish on the Drag Metal... |
White Lined Rock Cod on the Drag Metal... |
Striped Trigger on the Drag Metal... |
Nice Coral trout on the Xesta Slow Bee... |
Working the small IMA Gun jig with the light Jackall Anchovy Driver jig rod nails this beaut Rosy Jobfish... |
Squaretail Groupers are a common deep dweller, and this IMA Gun finds one... |
And so does this RedX Cross II jig... |
Reef Sharks usually make short work of the fishes hooked, but this one got greedy and got pinned by the IMA Gun jig... |
From the depths comes a Ruby Snapper on the RedX Cross II jig... |
IMA Gun with a similar sized Tomato Cod... |
Going deeper only finds a better Flametail Snapper, this one on the Shout! Width jig... |
At anchor, dropping the little FEEF FLIP jig in the shallows finds this Golden Spinecheek immediately... |
Upon nightfall, larger predators like this Sabre Squirrelfish come out to play... |
And later on this Xesta Flap jig nails this little Bigeye... |
Scouring the reefs with the DUO Realis Pencil finds an enthusiastic Peacock Hind... |
The Peacock Hind seemed pretty common on this reef, but they were no match for the strong prototype rod we were putting through its paces... |
Going deeper with a DUO Fangbait doesn't really find the bigger fish. Instead this little Paddletail Snapper obliges... |
So its back to the topwater and we find a willing White Lined Rock Cod, quite a surprise! |
The FEED Lures CONE popper nails it... |
Then its another Peacock Hind courtesy of the FEED SPEAR30EX pencil... |
Back to the slow pitch jigging with the FEED FLINT jig and an Emperor comes aboard quickly... |
As does a Rock Cod, also on the FEED FLINT... |
Next hook up was cruncher as the Major Craft Slow Draw rod was worked to the limit with this fat Banded Grouper from the depths... |
It fell for a patiently fluttered FEED FALL jig... |
Then its back to the smaller Rock Cods with the SFC Arrow jig... |
Black Jacks are always welcomed as a spirited fighter from the deep. The FEED FALL jig scores this one... |
A nice sized Squaretail Grouper fell for the SFC Arrow jig next... |
Meanwhile we had to try to escape the Goldflag Jobbies like this one... |
Easier said than does as even the larger profile jigs like the FEED FLINT gets nailed by these gregarious fish... |
Many prospective casts were made into the reefs and the payoff came in a big way with this monster Coral Trout! |
It fell for the special Abalone edition FEED PIN popper... |
Back to jigging an yet another Goldflag Jobbie on the SFC Rector... |
Coral Trouts seemed to be the order for the day. This one fell for the FEED FALL jig... |
The little Jobbies were hard to avoid as usual. This FCL Labo MN jig gets nailed... |
The new Evergreen Caprice Edge jig gets in on the action with a nice Rock Cod... |
When the deep stops producing we go shallow and this little IMA Gun jig is nailed big time by this horse Red Bass, which made for a monumental capture on the ultralight outfit... |
Next drop with the same IMA Gun jig finds a beautiful Bluefin Trevally... |
Chucking a FEED SPEAR pencil in the reefs finds a Paddletail Snapper which showed its aggression by taking a lure its size... |
Changing over to the DUO Realis Pencil Popper next results in a little Red Bass in the boat... |
But it is going a little deeper with the DUO Fangbait which finds this Passionfruit Trout patrolling its liar. A few intense moments with the new FEED prototype rod and we had it beat... |
We ended the great day in the company of a huge pod of Dolphins... |
Stay tuned for Part 3
