LONGFINS ON MICRO!

The monsoon is upon us and we are forced to keep close to shore even on the days where the weather allows us a day on the water. Fortunately with the advent of specialised techniques and appropriate tackle we still manage to find thrills in many different methods. The Longfin Trevally run sees us out on this day with light gear in hand...

A cute Filefish. Not your usual catch, but the IMA Gun Peki jig aroused its suspicions...

We get into the Longfin Trevs early on, and find them willing most of the day. Armed with an ultralight rod from Evergreen - the Temujin 'Aerial Level Stroke' the fun factor is turned up a notch...

The jig of mention for this morning was the Jackall Mametai in a new UV colourway...

The Longfin run ran hard and fast. Multiple hook-ups were not uncommon. The Jackall Mametai continued to shine...

They weren't huge but on the ultralight gear proved a handful. Mixed in amongst these fish were some bigger predators and jig losses were inevitable...

The Jackall Mametai jig is the perfect bite size for these speedsters...

Larger jigs did attract bigger fish like this one...

The FCL Labo CS Jig scores this number. The new Jackall Nero Spin rod was the perfect tool for working these jigs...

In the strong sweeping currents these fish were having a ball chasing down hapless baitfish washed by by the currents. The little Jackall Mametai jig did the perfect imitation...

The sizes were a mixed bag, but they weren't fussy, even taking slightly larger jigs like this Xesta Afterburner Mini...

The Xesta Afterburner Mini scores another Longfin...

And conitnues with yet another nice Longfin Trev...

As currents surged we would match the best jig weights to getting to the right zone and working it thoroughly...

When called upon, the IMA Gun Peki performs second to none...

Another Longfin on the IMA Gun Peki. If you only needed one jig in your box...

We got a pleasant surprise when a heavier jig - the Shout! Shiver was dropped and scored this nice Golden Snapper which put a bend on the Majorcraft Crostage Slow Pitch rod used...

A beautiful specimen of the much-lauded Golden Snapper. A great way to end the day!
