GOING SOFT!

You take what's available, it's often said. When on a recent trip offshore we had the works thrown at us we had to shove aside the bad weather, uncooperative fish, and boat, and just fish. Many fishless hours of trying did nothing to float the hope but with slight change of tactics we still yielded a few catches, albeit small but interesting nonetheless...

As told by our choice of lure and tackle, we were after some decent fish. But the day was kicked off after a few hours with a small greedy Blue Lined Hind on the Imakatsu IK Crank worked with the super heavy Jackall NERO rod...

We continued catching fish furthest from our targetted species. This Scorpion Fish snatched a Jackall Soul Shad worked past its hidey hole...

With the fish shut down a little change of tactics paid off. Rigged heavy, a Jackall i-Shad soft plastic worked deep scored this Giant Trevally. Was a short but tough fight on the Evergreen Poseidon 'MJ Racing' rod...

Then we hit this Cloudy Rockcod off the bottom...

It could barely fit the large Jackall i-Shad in its mouth...

We worked the pylons of a nearby wharf sheltered from the mad offshore winds and had fun with these small fish. Blue Lined Hinds would be a pest on any other day, but beggars can't be choosers and we enjoyed the hits from these critters on the deep worked Jackall i-Shads...

A fatter Cloudy Rockcod tamed by the strong Evergreen Zephyr baitcast rod...

Jackall i-Shad does the damage...

A small Areolate Grouper which didn't hesitate with the life-like Jackall i-Shad despite its size...

Lipless vibes worked too and this nice little Golden Snapper was the perfect result...

Another small Areolate Grouper pinned...

This time by a Jackall Glossy Shad soft plastic...

Another Jackall Glossy Shad victim. This time a baby Estuary Cod...

Bust offs were common amongst the barnacle encrusted pylons and we only managed to wrench small fish out despite the heavy-ish gear. Another small Estuary Cod is landed, courtesy of the lipless DUO Tide Vib Score...

When conditions allowed we had small windows to hit some exposed rocky shorelines to target some fish that we had a better chance of landing. The brand new Jackall Gillcra crankbait scores this nice one...

A beaut Estuary Cod that provided a few thrills on the light Major Craft Skyroad spin rod...

Estuary Cod are hard hitters and amongst the rocky outcrop substantial gear is needed to pry them from their homes. The Jackall NERO baitcast rod in its heaviest model is just the tool...

The heavy rod made it possible to work big cranks like this Imakatsu IK Crank with ease...

We tried hard for long hours peppering the likely holes but didn't score any other biggies. However, there was no shortage of small guys like this Blue Lined Hind that were enthusiastically attacking big cranks like this Evergreen Combat Crank...

Another Blue Lined Hind on the fat Evergreen Combat Crank to cap off the trip...
