MALDIVES TOPWATER TREATS!

The Maldives wouldn't be complete without a few poppers thrown at the beautiful reefs that fringe the many lagoons. Here are some of the catches on the longer rods and funky but effective lures...

The FCL Labo EXT 81 range of rods are the rods of choice for this type of work, they make short work of GTs and are superb for all-day casting...

The first GT to the boat is a nice one!

It took the FCL Labo CSP sinking pencil, a staple when fishing the Maldives...

We had taken this opportunity and test out some awesome new stickbaits under the FEED Lures banner. This GT surrenders to the FCL Labo EXT 81MH rod...

The stickbaits in question are the prototype floating SMACK130 by FEED...

The topwater action is pretty slow but we manage a little Bluefin Trevally that got greedy...

It fell for the production version SMACK130 floating stickbait...

Next up we pit the rough and tumble FEED Jungle spin rod against some reefies. And score this double header of Coronation Trout on the deep diving DUO Realis Crank G87 crankbait...

Then with the same outfit we find this nice Peacock Rockcod...

Another new floating stickbait by FEED Lures scores a hungry Coronation Trout. Its the SWISH60 pencil...

Between the reefies a big boy comes out to play, and is fooled by the FEED PIN100 popper...

Continuing with the brutish JUNGLE spin rod, this large Coronation Trout almost gets home but is wrenched out with tightly locked drags...

The DUO Realis G87 Crankbait is the culprit...

We keep chugging away with the Prototype SMACK130 floating stickbait and this comes in after a big red surface explosion...

Turns out to be a massive Red Bass, which created some tense moments...

And its back to the GTs which prowl the reefs...

The new FEED SMACK130 makes the mark...

With the GTs not as active, we are able to chance upon some other species like this Coronation Trout which took the FCL Labo SPP Tuna stickbait...

The seas are calm and that means some pretty tough sessions with the topwater lures...

This GT is the last for the session and it fell for the FEED Lures SWIM130 swimmer...

We then spent a few hours on shore. Didn't take too long to find a willing Emperor on the DUO Ikakko...

Along with this little Silver Biddy, a real fighter for its size...

Bluefin Trevallies scour the reefs searching out prey and they are seldom missed with the little DUO Ikakkos...

Popping over shallow reefs with the little FEED BELL5 popper yield some interesting fish too...

While the Ikakko never fails, and gets this Paddletail Snapper's attention...

Another Rockcod falls for the sexy little BELL5 popper...

Poppers seem to be the way to go to get the local Bluefin population to play ball and this DUO Poco Poco popper scores...

And was followed shortly after by another from the school...

Honeycomb Cod are one of the most common captures in these shallow reefs and this one didn't turn down the little DUO Ikakko for sure...

Another Silver Biddy falls for the sexy Ikakko bounced off the flats...

Meanwhile the Trevallies continue to be mesmerised by the topwater bloops of the FEED BELL5 popper...

We end the day with this little one on the BELL5...

As the tide recedes, we retreat after an awesome time casting...
