A TRIP CUT SHORT

It had been a long year and work and commitments meant skipping a few trips aboard our fave boat on the West Coast. This trip however, would begin great with blessed conditions but had to be cut short when a bout of bad weather took its toll. That's fishing.

Enthusiastic kid happy to send us off...

Ice on board and we were ready to go...

Didn't take too long for the FCL Labo SL jig to find a Golden Snapper to start things off...

Here's a brand new Slow Pitch Special Giant Killing by Majorcraft. Very light and a joy to use...

First casualty for the rod - a Giant Trevally taken on an FCL Labo SL-Z jig...

Next up a nice Cobia that went for a Shout! Stay jig. Fight was short, courtesy of the Evergreen Poseidon Spin Jerker...

Got into a school of Mack Tuna that weren't fussy with jig choices...

The new Shout! Strobe jig is the kind of jig the Slow Pitch Giant Killing was designed to work. For demersals like this Golden Snapper they work marvelously...

This is a lucky Mackeral capture. One more inch and he would've snipped the leader clean. Result is a Shout! Shab Shab jig in the gob...

Spanish Mack, a prized catch anywhere...

Here's a Majorcraft Alexander jig rod nicely loaded...

Took a pretty long while to coax this stubborn fish into the next, and not without some nifty rod work too...

A beaut Cobia, big and stubborn...

It took the rattling Geecrack Long Gun jig...

Shout! Shab Shab jig is never far behind when it comes to Goldies...

The Shout! Width jig holds its own too, for these magnificent fish...

The Giant Killing by Majorcraft in PE 2-4 guise is perfect for this kind of work...

This tough fighter turned out to be Mr.Reefie...

The sun set on a decent day's fishing, and brought out some pretty eager nocturnal denizens too...

Little poppers like the Jackson RA Pop send Bigeye Trevally into a frenzy. On ultralight set ups like the Evergreen Temujin 'Spider' it was maximum fun...

The fish were in the 1-3kg range and were a handful to land on these light outfits. RA Pops ruled the night...

Another Temujin 'Spider' victim early next morning. The mini Nin Cas madai jig by Bassday fooled this passerby...

A Fusilier nailed this DUO Ikakko thinking it got an easy snack...

And this Slender Queenfish fell for this Jackall Bros Mame jig worked with the 'Spider' rod...

A Blue Lined Hind on a mini IMA Gunpeki jig. Temujin 'Spider' is the rod of choice of course...

This Octopus had no qualms attacking the Bassday Nin Cas...

This little Snapper went for the lumo Nin Sui casting madai by Bassday...

The day was spent in the shallows as the winds howled offshore. We passed time by catching small reefies on the mini stuff. Small madai jigs like the Bassday Nin Cas were very effective indeed...

Another Fusilier, this time on an IMA Gunpeki jig...

And another on the Bassday Nin Sui...

A plethora of species courtesy of the IMA Gunpeki...

And more on the Jackall Bros Mametai jig...

The resident Giant Trevallies weren't around but the Queenies took over the role of popper munching pelagic. Here the Fisherman Crazy Swimmer worked it magic. On the new FCL Labo UC74 rod in sexy red it was easy to punch into the mighty headwind...

This was followed shortly by another smaller one...

And the terribly tough session was capped off with this better Queenfish that fell for the same Fisherman Crazy Swimmer popper...

The evening couldn't come early enough. The sudden change in weather brought the worst and the mood was dampened by the unending gusts that forced all boats into sheltered areas. That night the decision was made to head home early and leave the fishing for another time...
