The humble Peacock Bass, always in the subject of controversy, is in many ways the perfect sportfish. Willing, aggressive and in abundance, these introduced South Americans continue to populate our waterways. The outcome though, is favourable to anglers as it provides a viable target species for many within the city. These fish though, are not all-empowered and are at the mercy of overfishing in many areas and have also become learned towards tried-and-true tactics employed. A recent morning spent chasing a clever population of Peacock Bass saw one particular lure stand out amongst the rest...
After many lure-changes we found the lure that switched on the vary fish. The Jackall i-Shad rigged with ultralight heads worked with the superlight Major Craft Troutino Trout rod turned up the goods... |
Despite being small to average fish, these fish were smart enough to turn a blind eye towards most other lures thrown their way. The Jackall i-Shad turned things around that day... |
Cast a twitched slow, these fish reacted with gusto... |
They weren't big but they sure were fiesty, attacking i-Shads with ferocity... |
Amongst the i-Shad onslaught a few were fooled by other lures as well, but they were far between... |
Here's one on a DUO Spearhead Ryuki jerkbait... |
And one on an Evergreen SR Mini spinnerbait... |
While testing out the new Jackall Chubby Vibe this small fellow showed itself... |
Meanwhile the Jackall i-Shad continued to shine... |
There were some nice fish... |
On the ultralight Major Craft rod it was great fun... |
The i-Shads were getting hits one after another... |
Very soon the pack of plastics was dwindling... |
But the fish kept coming... |
The trick was the light leader, light jighead and of course the slinky life-like soft plastic that is the i-Shad... |
We cap the session off with some nice fish amongst the usuals... |
