MORE MUD!

Just can't get enough of a good thing.

Three weeks later we are back again. Same estuary, same routine. Hop on the boat for a few sessions and explore the little creeks and gutters on foot. All in all, a short little getaway from the hustle and bustle, complete with sand flies and mosquitos.

Here's the trip in pictures, as always. Sure beats reading about it.

Rise and shine. The sun peeks through the foliage and chases us up river...

The camera barely has time to acclimatise to the warm outside ambience and we're on the first fish. A frisky little Archerfish that went for a DUO Ryuki 50, worked with the lightest Majorcraft Basspara spin rod...

We get right into it with this nice big Barramundi. What a way to start the day bright and early at the first spot. Unfortunately, what seemed like a productive start soon faded as the rest of the day was extremely tough...

This nice Barra fell for a IMA Beast Hunter cranked deep with a Majorcraft Volkey rod..

Sticking with the small DUO Ryuki meant hooking many little critters, like this Yellowfin Trevally...

This very territorial Mangrove Jack pounced on the huge passing Evergreen Combat Crank lure with no reservation...

Another Archerfish on the little Ryuki. One of many...

Estuary Cods are always a welcome catch, and this decent one gave a good fight on the Majorcraft Go-Emotion spin rod...

It fell for a Jackson Artist, a lure which is great for fast-flowing currents...

It was followed shortly by another smaller mate. This one had no qualms taking the rather large Evergreen True Round lure, which was subsequently lost two casts later to an unstoppable suspected Jack on the same rock bar. Nothing even the powerful Evergreen Kaleido heavy spin rod could do...

Round the bend and we found this little Rockcod eager to snatch a passing DUO Deep Feat...

And another which took a liking to the IMA Farina lure. No match for the Evergreen Temujin 'Rebellion' rod though...

Next up this nice Estuary Cod took a relatively small IMA Keep 90MD meant for Jacks, check out the totally destroyed bib...

It was a happy capture for a tough day. The Kaleido 'Spin Cobra Q7' doing its usual stellar job at handling its adversary..

Walking the small creeks and feeders with an ultralight outfit is utterly delightful. The catches need not be big to provide a thrill and small Mangrove Jacks like this one are lots of fun on the Evergreen Temujin 'Spider' armed with little lures like the DUO Realis Shad...

Didn't take more than a few more casts to get this small Estuary Cod on the same Realis Shad...

Small shallow runners like the Zipbaits ZBL Minnow 50S are great for this kind of work. Worked with a light bass rod like the Megabass Orochi X4 spin, it scores a beaut little Barra...

This tiny Jack bit off more than it could chew by going after this IMA Keep lure...

Just like this tiny little fellow on the equally big Jackson Rogos jerkbait...

We found a pod of enthusiastic Freshwater Needlefish that went crazy over a quick twitched DUO Yurameki sinking pencil...

And a Puffer which tried to show the IMA P-CE 100 who's boss...

Next we found a nice pool with Jacks small to big queueing at the inlet for a feed. Lure for the job certainly would be a medium diver bounced around and over the snaggy rocks...

And that lure would definitely be the DUO Realis Shad...

Didn't take long to find another amidst the many botched hook ups...

Realis Shad is perfect for these estuarine juveniles. We did hook some bigger fish but luck would have it that they won their freedom with thrown hooks et all...

It seemed like the Barramundi had just spawned shortly prior, evident by the number of juveniles we were finding. On the Temujin 'Spider' they were great fun though...

The IMA Sukari Deep is a great freshwater lure, but here it works just as well, showing off its 'trout stream' abilities by swimming well in fast flowing water...

Bouncing an IMA Melty Nymph soft plastic rigged on a light jighead found this beautiful Mangrove Jack in just two feet of water. It put up a great fight on the light Megabass Orochi X4 spin rod...

More Barra. This one took the lure at our feet...

It liked the DUO Realis Shad as well...

A slightly better kilo size Barramundi to show for our efforts. This one was prowling the shallows and took a rigged Jackall Bros I-Shad soft plastic in just a foot of water. Great acrobatics and fun on the Majorcraft Volkey spin rod...

Same snag and a smaller fish that took over the spot vacated by the earlier one. Ultra shallow lures like this IMA Bita were essential for these shallow spots. Evergreen Teujin 'Rebellion' rod was too strong for the fish to have any chance...

IMA Bita 80. Very effective...

And it accounted for this small Yellowtail Barracuda as well to end the session...
